TX Ranch
Who we are?
For those of you who are looking for an authentic old fashion ranch experience in scenic and remote open range country "astride a horse", the Tillett family invites you to take a step back in time for some good honest western hospitality and the experience of a life time you'll never forget! At the TX we live, ride and work out of authentic cow camps. We want you to feel like part of the family and one of the cowboys!
The TX Guest Ranch originated in 1976 ~ long before the film City Slickers ever hit the big screen! What we do? Guests have the opportunity to experience "hands on" the life of a real working cowboy or cowgirl and help out with everything from roundups and cattle drives to chasing down strays! You'll have the opportunity to ride along side some honest-to-goodness cowboys and you'll be welcome to try as much or as little as desired. We offer excellent riding opportunities with a wide variety of distance to travel for every riding level! Our cattle drives, horse drives and the various seasonal working ranch activities are a genuine and necessary part of each day! Respectfully we operate the ranch in the same manner our great grand parents did because we value their traditional ways.
What makes the TX unique?
It stocks around 1,200 head of mother cows not including calves with in miles of open range boundaries. This means lots of cattle in a lot of big country! Our ranch riding gives you a purpose which helps every level of rider. Each day you'll feel much more confidence in your horsemanship skills. Don't just visit the West ~ Live it!
Where we are located?
We're not in Texas! The TX Ranch straddles the Montana/Wyoming border. Its privately owned range begins on either side of the Pryor Mountain, stretching for miles on down to the Big Horn Canyon and its breathtaking overlook! The ranch borders the historical "Will James Ranch" and the "Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range" for which "Lloyd Tillett" helped establish the herd. On the map, we're located between Billings, Montana and Lovell, Wyoming.
If you're looking for an authentic experience at a genuine old fashion working cattle ranch that is what the TX Ranch is all about! We will provide everything you'll need for your week including free transportation. The privately owned ranch property spreads for miles across open range country between the Pryor Mountain and the Big Horn Canyon. This offers excellent scenic ranch riding with no boundaries and a wide variety of genuine cattle drives and all the working cattle activities. We welcome guest participation it's a fun and exciting experience! Please feel free to join in while we're driving cattle, cutting out from the herd, rounding up or chasing down strays! Once we gather a herd it is driven to a location where we can hold the herd and begin working the cattle. Our cowboys & gals will be roping and throwing calves to brand, castrate, doctor or whatever is necessary as the calves grow throughout the season. This involves foot soldier help too it's a nice in-between break from the saddle to stretch your legs and dig in with doctoring, throwing calves or whatever you wish. We'll be happy to help show you how it's done! After the day is done we enjoy a good roping match and cards, cribbage or whatever it maybe! During evenings we enjoy relaxing around a warm open camp fire under a mired of stars reminiscing the day with a favorite beverage and stories or tunes from all walks of life. We want you to know we understand this is your vacation, our ranch activities are not compulsory. If you wish to take time out or laze around camp for the day or ride on your own you're welcome to do so there is plenty of gorgeous country to see. When we take our suburban out to meet the gathered herd with lunch and cattle supplies you're very welcome to ride along with our driver if you don't want to miss out on the fun during the cattle working activities!
The ranch has over 75 saddle horses to choose from. They are used for all our necessary ranch riding and cattle working activities. My husband and daughter Hip and Desiree know the horses inside and out. We can provide a good horse for every riding level. The horses are gentle well mannered and easy to handle. They are sure footed, they know their jobs and they know how to pick a path with ease which is second nature to them! Our ranch horses are well known to take good care of their riders!
Our cow camps are a great experience too! Cow camps are located on the open range at scenic original home stead sites. We will return to the same cow camp every day, you won't have to worry about your baggage. Everything necessary will be provided for you except your own personal gear. The camp site includes a log cabin; this is where excellent ranch style home cooked meals are prepared and served, please make your selves at home we want you to feel like part of the family and one of the cowboys!
